In 2003 my wife and I moved to southern St. Charles County, Missouri, settling near the small town of Defiance, where we lived for eighteen years.  Because we are avid hikers, we soon began exploring the parks, trails, and conservation areas near our new home.  The more we walked, the more we became interested in the history of our area.

     In 2005 we joined the Boone-Duden Historical Society, an organization dedicated to preserving the history of southern St. Charles County.  A few years later, I began writing articles for the newsletter of the BDHS.  All of the articles available on this website were written for the newsletter between 2007 and 2024.
